I was fifteen in 1966, and enjoyed listening to the radio. Top numbers for the year were The Mamas and the Papas for California Dreamin and ? and the Mysterians for their organ classic 96 Tears. Both Nancy and Frank Sinatra had hits, and the Monkees arrived on the scene. Some of the bigger acts had gone for album sales over singles including the Beatles and Beach Boys who weren’t on the list. Eleven of the tunes were by groups of three or more. Only five were by black artists. The war wasn’t totally unpopular yet as Ssgt Barry Sadler had hit with The Ballad of the Green Berets. I liked about half the songs on the list.
