In 1965 I was fourteen and moving from elementary to high school. We had more of the British Invasion with the Beatles, the Stones, Petula Clark and Herman’s Hermits (with two top twenty) on this year’s list. Groups of three or more were prominent with 13 out of the 20 songs. Only five were soloists. To my taste, the list isn’t fabulous, but still some great songs. The Motown sound was well represented which I like and seven of the tunes represented black artists. Only Roger Miller’s King of the Road was a top charting country hit.
