Commentary

I was eleven in 1962.  There were few songs from this list I fell in love with.  I think ‘Duke of Earl’ is my favorite.  ’62 saw the rise of dance music (I’m not much of a dancer) and a lot of heart throb solo pop singers. Among the former were  a rare reappearance of a song ‘The Twist’, as well as ‘Mashed Potato Time’, ‘Loco-Motion’, and ‘Slow Twistin’.  The latter included songs by Ray Charles, Bobby Vinton, Shelley Fabares, Bruce Channel (who?), Dion, Freddy Cannon (who?), Neil Sedaka, Mary Wells and Elvis.  There were two country songs and two instrumentals.  Number one song was an instrumental sax piece by Acker Bilk (who?).
