1960’s list contains a number of memorable names and a few I don’t hardly recall. I was nine at the time and not much of a radio listener. Despite this, as I play the songs, I do remember all of them. The list includes one instrumental (Percy Faith orchestra), 10 popular including such stalwarts as Elvis, Connie Francis, Bobby Rydell, Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers and such little known artists as black artist Jimmy Jones and Mark Dinning and Brian Hyland. There were four Country hits in the top 20, two by Brenda Lee, one by Jim Reeves and one by Jack Scott, two Western hits (cowboys were still big back then), one by Johnny Preston and one by Marty Robbins, one folk tune by the Brothers Four, one R&B by Chubby Checker, and one doowop one hit wonder by the Hollywood Argyles. Jones and Chubby Checker were the only two black artists on the list.
